Well darn now I have red bugs and AEFW

I accidently left the white channel of my LEDs at 75% today for over six hours. I went to work and came home and found the colony has gone from tan to a cream. I turned the lights back down the 35% where they normally are. I moved the small colony to the bottom third of the tank where I hope it does better.

I did some research but all I found was people saying to frag it or dip the coral. Is there any effective method? I tilted the colony so the bleached area isn't getting exposed to the...

We have a new database we are working on and before you quit reading let me just say that this is an awesome add on to our software! Nothing like in the past.

Here is why I got your attention.

We're creating a new SPS DB and with the new DB we can customize all of the fields and have them searchable. So I need you to tell me what types of custom fields we will need. These fields will help differentiate between each "NAMED" sps coral and make it easier to search a name.

For example we...

Possible precipitation problem

Hi all, thanks in advance for any help you can provide
I have a 150 gallon tank that has been set up about 3 years and overall has done well. About 6 months ago I started more aggressively feeding and stimulating my corals with Red sea reef energy A and B, reef chili, Fuel, etc and have noticed a marked improvement in growth and color in almost all my corals. I use BRS calcium chloride and soda ash 2 part solutions. Prior to this change in my routine, I was using about 80-120 ml per day...

Benign neglect? Or the greatest imitation of nature? Musings...

As a lifelong hobbyist, I've personally been through periods of time when I couldn't devote as much time to my beloved fish tanks...Yet I always had one- fresh, salt, or otherwise. IMHO, it’s just not "home" unless you hear the reassuring popping of bubbles, hum of pumps, smell the fresh smell of the ocean, and see the beautiful reflections caused by the interplay of light and moving water.

Of course, there were a number of times over the years that,...

Metal Halide / Power Compact Question

I just picked up a used 72" MH and PC combo. it has 3 x 400W single end MH and 2 x Power Compact bulbs (at least 24" each as the two stretch almost the whole length). Im going to use this to replace my 72" T5HO fixture over my 210g mixed reef.

the question i have is should i go 14000k or 20000k? if i go with the 10000k Power Compacts, im assuming it will balance out a little more with the 20000k and still give me more color in the corals? But as im still new to the hobby and lighting...

Still looking for ideas to scape my 200DD, and want to see more scapes to "inspire" me. Post up your scapes you think look awesome. I still like the "bonsai" inspired ones, but anything is welcome.

Alkalinity swings in pico tank

I set up my little 3 gallon PiCo tank a few months ago and haven't done much other than let it cycle, add a CUC and a couple tiny frags of zoas, pulsing xenia and a tiny chunk of pocilopora from my 150 just because.

I feed my CUC a bit and have been changing out about 1 gallon of water every week and have some chemipure elite in the back chamber (maybe 2 oz). I finally have the time to devote more energy to this tank and have began testing calcium and alkalinity to see where I am at. I...

What size Kessil?

We won the new jbj 30g rimless and have decided that a kessil light will be our best option of lighting due to several reasons.

Which one would you recommend since I do not know too much about them. The tank is 24x20x16 and we are looking to do a mixed reef but mostly softies and LPS

Thank you.

"ME Coral's" Coral Dip "Wash off"...

I know I might be opening up a can of worms with this one (diehard bayer users);)...
not that I have anything against "bayer" for dipping just a little on the fence with all the chemicals in it, and yes I have used it.
...just came across this, anyone have first had experience with this product?

Shred5 90 gallon build.

Well since My Marineland 93 had bubbles in the seams, I scrapped that build. I decided not to do anything for a while and be happy with my 75. Well Now a little latter and I upgraded my 75 to a larger sump for more room. I put in a Elite Aquatics RS33 Reef Sump.

Basically tore my 75 gallon 100 percent apart to install the new sump because it only fit through the top of the stand. Well...

Tiny funny reef on budget

Hello R2R from Kiev, Ukraine :)

Here in Ukraine, reef keeping is not that popular and most people out of the hobby believe all corals they see are plastic toys in freshwater :) One may suggest that's because reef keeping is quite costly, but I personally believe the truth is much worse. It's all about turkey blasters! You see, we don't celebrate thanksgiving here, so there is no such thing as "turkey blaster" in our country. That's the reason, no one needs a reef without turkey...

How long will algae last in RODI water?

I'm breaking down my tank that he bubble algae in it and using one of the pumps for my new tank that's only filled with RODI. How long will it take for the algae to die before adding in salt?

Considering new ATO....whats your favorite

I currently use the Auto Aqua Smart ATO and I'm very indecisive about it. I really hate that once the thing starts beeping, you have to reset it every time. Also, the 15sec shut off doesn't always work.

So what do others use?

Pirate'e Stick Killer 120g

Well, after some ups and downs with my current 65g tank, I have decided to upgrade to 120g. I was hoping to get a stand with enough charisma to be attractive to my wife so it would be easier to justify upgrading to my wife. After scouring the webs for a few months, I found a very unique stand that really spoke to what I was looking for.
